Q&A with Steve Hooker – ACS Ambassador 

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news. An icon has vaulted into the ACS family. Steve Hooker, Olympic Gold Medalist for Australia, has experienced ACS firsthand; both through business collaborations and as a client building with an ACS builder. Known for setting the bar sky-high in every pursuit, Steve brings a unique perspective on quality, trust, and innovation in construction. 



Get to know Steve as he shares his experience, what stood out to him about ACS, and why this partnership feels like a natural fit. 


Q: Steve, what first drew you to ACS and their network of builders? 


Steve:  Having worked with a few businesses connected to ACS I was impressed by their professionalism and how they provide a seamless process through estimating, design, and product selection stages. The outcome is a clear view on budget through the whole process and a much easier relationship with your builder. 


Q: You’ve experienced ACS both as a client and through business collaborations. What stood out the most? 


Steve:  I think with ACS you get the right balance of structure and flexibility whilst maintaining the key element in the current marketplace, affordability.  


Q: As someone known for precision and performance, how do you see that reflected in the ACS approach? 


Steve:  Consistent high performance requires a simple repeatable process that can hold up under pressure. My perception is that the ACS provides the platform that enables builders to deliver in a high stress and highly variable environment. 


Q: What was your experience like working with your ACS builder? 


Steve:   “Fantastic!”. The communication was clear, timelines were realistic and we got to site within our budget. The support from the ACS design team was really collaborative and we were able to achieve our design outcomes in a really efficient manner. We’re excited to see and share the end product. 


Q: What do you think ACS brings to the Australian building industry? 


Steve:  Being a builder has never been harder. ACS helps boutique builders manage two of the biggest variables being their supply chains and customer requirements through their smart systems.   


Q: You’ve spoken about setting high standards in sport and life. How does that translate into building a home? 


Steve:  Achieving on the sporting field is about getting the absolute maximum performance out of the physical capabilities that you have. I look at housing in the same way. We have a limited budget and we want to maximise the value and liveability of the outcome. Just like in sport that requires a team of experts that can get the optimum outcome out of all stages of the design and build process. 


Q: What excites you most about becoming an ACS Ambassador? 


Steve:  We need to house more Australians and this requires innovation that supports customers and builders. Through my experience with ACS I see that they are a big piece of the puzzle and I’m excited to help more customers and builders experience what they have to offer.
